Is Modernization And Westernization Taking A Toll On Us..?

India is getting modernized at a fast pace which is a good thing and it has helped to create a lot of job opportunities. It has also allowed lot of new fields to reach in India. Quick services are now available to us.
The most favourable boost has been given to the Indian food industry which is now widely being recognized all over the world. Women's education and role have been encouraged in development of the country.

Though many good things are happening, there is something seriously going wrong in the Indian Society.

Now-a-days, teenagers want every luxury and comforts, though this is not a bad thing but under the pretext of achieving these luxuries, many of them commit crimes sometimes even crimes that shake the conscience of society. It's common to hear incidences like robberies, thievery by teenagers, then teenage pregnancies at an age where teenagers should be building the base of their lives because what you do, what choices you make in these years influence how your life would be in next 40 years..

Regarding the topic of "teenage" pregnancies, I wish to narrate a true incident that had happened in my society a few years ago.

There was a girl in our society, she was beautiful, good in studies and ideally the one every boy would desire to have. At that time, she had just entered her 10th standard.  Her father was a businessman and she was from a well-to-do family, slightly above middle-class. Through a common friend, this girl met a guy and soon they were in a relationship. This guy used to live in a chawl located a few streets away from our society. Now, it so happened that this guy was our senior and he was a drop out. He had failed in his 10th and used to drive a rickshaw for a living. This guy was a smoker and involved in all bad things like addictions.

Soon, during the vacations between 9th and 10th, their relationship grew and so the messages and meetings. Her school started, classes started. This girl got so serious that she started bunking her school and classes and together they used to roam in that guy's rickshaw in the afternoons. The girl and the guy used to go to various lodges and regularly have sex with each other.

This guy had told the girl that he owns vast property in his village and they dont have to worry about money and all that if they get married. This guy's mother was a total psycho, she was suffering from some mental disorder. His father was very old and his elder brother was a drainage worker( He had told the girl that his brother works in export company). Soon the girl completed her 10th and during her vacations of 10th, she started getting symptoms of pregnancy which she ignored thinking to be stomach infection since it was summer. It was in her mid vacation that she came to know that she is pregnant with the guy's child( Later everyone came to know that after the girl left class at 7pm, she would go with him and both of them used to have unprotected sex in an abandoned forest patch near the creek).

The girl's father filed a police case against the guy but to the father's horror, the girl decided to marry the guy and opposed her family. Her family tried every possible way to reason with the girl but she was defiant to the extent that she was ready to leave her family. Tired of her behaviour, her family finally ended in disowning her
and cut of all ties with her. This girl and the guy had a court marriage( She had turned 18 in January that year)

In the first few weeks of their marriage itself, cracks and trouble began to occur. It is at this time that she came to know that the boy had lied about everything to her. He neither had any property there in his village, only a small house. Also, she came to know that his elder brother was a drain pipe worker. The guy's mother was a psycho, she would not let this girl even talk to any male outside. She would only be allowed to go to market and that also with certain restrictions. The mother used to give her reason that since she was beautiful, shopkeepers, young boys, old men would often look at her. The guy's father was old and bed ridden. This girl's husband used to drive a rickshaw and he would return in night. The family was struggling to make ends meet. This girl was used to the high lifestyle there in her house and here she had to eat stale food.

Soon this girl conceived her child and after a few months, horrifying incident occured. This boy's elder brother was unmarried and the family did not have any money to spend on his weddings, the elder brother would always ask this girl for sex. The guy's elder brother started molesting her. He used to come home from work in evenings. He would often grope her from back, make the girl drink his half finished tea. Once during Navaratri days, the elder brother used to make the girl swallow his semen. What was more horrifying is that, the guy's mother used to support all these acts, she would even pester the girl to get pregnant with her elder son's child, giving a reason that it was painful for her to see her younger son have a child but not the elder one. The girl would also be forced to swallow both the guy's brother and his old father's semen during certain festival days. And her own husband did not have problem with any of these acts.

After these incidents, the girl realized what her mistake was, how wrong she was but it was too late. She could not even find her own work or do job because she had only passed 10th and did not graduate. She would face abuse from her husband, his brother and mother. She could not even go to her family or police since she herself had chosen to marry him. Once the girl had got gift from her friends, the mother had accused her of sleeping with an old man and getting the gift.

The last thing which I remember about this family is..The girl's husband used to call prostitutes and take them to the isolated forest patch near the creek and have intercourse with them. I still remember, the guy once did the same thing and never returned home. the family filed a police complaint and a search was launched for the guy. The next morning, the guy was found dead in the forest patch. His body was found partially naked. he only had his baniyan on his body and was without any clothes. Also, there was lot of foam coming out of his mouth.

Later after post-mortem and rounding up the prostitutes, the police pieced the story and came to know what had happened... The guy was bitten by a snake on his leg when he was going into the heavily forested patch and since his legs were wet with mud and water, he did not feel the snake bite and thought it to be a minor injury...He was waiting for a prostitute there and had removed his clothes and sat down. he then began to feel uneasy and started dying because of the snake bite during which he emitted foam from his mouth.

After this incident, there was mourning and the girl married the elder brother and they went to their native village.

Of all the things I mentioned, some were told to us by our trusted friends and people who resided in that chawl near to the family.

Hence now-a-days, it is essential to check the background first of the person you are in love with and think on it rather than blindly loving anyone. All those excuses."it is love at first sight".."love is blind" hold no meaning.
Whats the use of such "love" that destroys families and beautiful lives of others..?
